全小良（杜江 饰）来自贵州山区，大学毕业后在上海《都市周刊》杂志社当记者，由于试用期没有工资，他只好跟他人合租房子以降低生活成本，跟他合租的是女同事来自湖南的苏悦（董维嘉 饰）。全小良凭扎实的功底很快在杂志社站稳了脚根，并赢得上海地产大鳄乔盛龙（杨宝龙 饰）女儿乔海贝（汪家麒 饰）的青睐，但全小良的心早被苏悦占据。在苏悦生病住院其间，小良对她照顾周到，令苏悦十分感动，但此时小良的天平却向海贝倾斜，原因是她有一个实力雄厚的爸爸。当苏悦发现端倪后，毫不犹豫地离开了小良，而与海贝的交往也被其父乔盛龙一棒喝止，小全站在了人生的十字路口上......
